Advent Calendar - Week 2.

Advent Calendar day 8 - Systems.

Twas the night before Christmas and you suddenly realise you have no presents yet, then you need to wrap them.

You won't get what you want to give and you might not get the materials in order to wrap up nicely.

Another year, another disappointment.

What if you were organised? What if you created a system in your life for being able to be ready in advance!!

A system around Christmas, could include setting out time for planning and organising what you want to buy or make for your loved ones.

Then setting aside a few hours to wrap everything up nicely, put up the tree and decorations, whilst relaxing to a festive film.

Wrapping presents on Christmas morning, doesn't have to be the way of life.

Use systems in your life on a day to day basis in order to grow professionally and personally.

Take away a year round anxiety by getting organised.

One project management tool I love is Trello. Download it and start to systemise your tasks.

Advent Calendar day 9 - Accountability.

If you say you are going to do something, you might.

If you say to someone you are going to do something, it is more likely you will.

If you tell a group what you plan, there is a high chance you will do it!

Getting accountable with yourself first will force a change for the better. Recognising what is important and move you towards your goals.

I find writing 3 personal and 3 professional goals each week makes me accountable to myself.

I then tell an accountability partner, who tells me their goals too. We check in each week. Find your partner to hold you accountable.

There is a Nota9to5kindoflifestyle accountability group set up - if you want someone to be accountable with, why not join?

Feel free to post you weekly personal and professional goals there.

Advent Calendar day 10 - Daily Routine.

Imagine it is Christmas morning, you wake up, you run downstairs, you open presents with your family. Breakfast is served, you speak to your siblings, your parents, your children and check in with friends. Later on you have a meal together and maybe watch some movies, listen to music and enjoy games.

The day tends to have a routine to it and chances are you enjoy it. Well, I certainly do.

Successful and driven people have a daily routine which leads to results. Following a set plan each day will keep you healthy in body and mind.

What can you do daily to make progress across all elements of your life?

Read more about my own routine, then create your own.

Advent Calendar day 11 - Gratitude.

How do you feel when you receive a gift? It makes you happy doesn't it?

How does it feel when you say thank you for that gift? Look at the person you are saying thanks to. That glint in their eyes, the warm feeling that their thought has acknowledged.

Gratification is an amazing thing to practice daily. You search for positives in the last 24 hours and say thank you for them. You are grateful.

If things are tough around you, look at other things you are grateful for - maybe you spoke to a friend, a stranger smiled at you, or event you are grateful you have a roof over your head.

Before you start your day, write down a few things that you are grateful for.

Sticking filler idea - Start a gratification journal, it will put you in a positive frame of mind.

Advent Calendar day 12 - Resilience.

2020, what a year. One takeaway I have certainly seen from many is a build up of resilience.

The mental power to never give up on your goal, when everything else is going mad around you.

Your ability to accept everything that 2020 has thrown at you, though you will make it work.

Well done, you have made it to today, now it is time to grow.

Resilience, it’s gonna get you through.

Advent Calendar day 13 - Defiance.

At 8 years old, Kevin was left at home as his whole family went on holiday, they had left him by accident.

When he was coming to terms with this, he noticed some things happening in the neighbourhood. Two people were robbing houses.

Kevin decided that even though he had been left behind, no one was going to rob his families house.

Against all odds he used defiance in order to protect what was his.

I could go on and talk about the carefully executed plan, the vision he had to protect the family home and eventually the accountability partner he found in the movie.

Yes! If you hadn't worked it out, I am of course recounting the story of Home Alone.

If Kevin can learn this skill at 8, think how defiant he will be as life goes on.

Learn to be defiant in the pursuit of your goals.

It is the weekend, why not make this your movie of choice tonight?

Advent Calendar day 14 - Staying true to yourself.

Rudolph was born with a bright red nose and because of this, he was mocked.

He just kept getting on with Reindeer duties and staying true to himself.

Then one night, he got his chance! Santa needed a bright light to lead his sleigh.

There was only one person fit for the job, the ideal candidate!

It was Rudolph's chance and he stood up.

This brought much fame and admiration through his life, and it is because he stayed true to himself.

He became a hero.

Rudolph didn't let the nee sayers get to him.

One of the best quotes I heard this year was,

"What other people think about you is none of your business."

Think about that for a bit.

Believe in yourself, concentrate on you and do things for you.

Be your own hero.
